Life Safety Mechanical Work

Schaumburg High School
Schaumburg, Illinois


Replaced seventeen gas-fired, D-X air cooled, roof top units by providing indoor air handling units, chilled water system, hot water system and state-of-the-art DDC controls. Addressed thermal comfort to resolve indoor air quality, and maintenance problems.

Energy Conservation Work

Performed energy surveys and studies for twenty-one buildings and prepared technical assistance reports. Obtained matching funds grants from the U. S. Department of Energy's institutional conservation program and implemented energy conservation measures.

Indoor Air Quality Remediation Work

Beyer Elementary School
Rockford, Illinois


Evaluated the air quality problem and implemented recommendations such as cleaning of air ducts, improvements of ventilation air distribution, installation of new HVAC equipment and removal of moisture.

Campus-wide Fire Alarm System

Northeastern Illinois University

Upgraded the fire alarm system campus-wide to meet code and provided new lighting and sprinkler system where required.

Weiss Memorial Hospital

Chicago, Illinois


Weiss Memorial provides a wide array of medical services including oncology, obstetrics, cardiology, drug rehabilitation, emergency care, nuclear medicine, intensive care, orthopedics, and out-patient care. GEC performed a comprehensive energy study and developed an energy cost reduction program for the hospital.

Singer Mental Health Center

This is a complex of eight buildings constructed in 1965 with 233,000 sq. ft. gross area. The chilled water system was completely rehabbed. The chillers were replaced with hybrid centrifugal and absorption chillers. GEC also replaced the cooling tower and piping, and tested and balanced the hydraunic and air distribution systems for the entire complex.

Shapiro Developmental Center

The project includes the upgrade of the HVAC systems for four residential buildings. The air handling units, chillers and controls were replaced and upgraded.

ZGS Cooling Water System Modifications

Converted the existing chilled water (3,000 tons), experimental water and raw water systems to variable volume pumping.

Reception & Classification Center

This is a new maximum security prison facility. GEC was responsible for the MEP systems for the Administrative Services, Food Services, Cafeteria, Laundry and Medium Security Residential Buildings.

Materials Recovery & Recycling Facilities

City of Chicago

The City of Chicago has built four Materials Recovery & Recycling facilities. Each facility is approximately 150,000 sq. ft. and is designed for handling 800 tons/day of mixed waste and bagged recyclables such as paper, different grades of glass, aluminum cans and plastics.

GEC was responsible for designing the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, security, and video surveillance systems for three of these facilities.

MCI Telecommunications

Campbell Creek, Texas


As a part of the CFC phase out, GEC converted nine MCI chiller plants to HCFC123 chillers nationwide. The mechanical equipment room ventilation system and controls were upgraded to meet ASHRAE 52 requirements.

Henkle Corporation

GEC designed and engineered the ventilation exhaust and etheyne dichloride fume recovery systems to improve indoor air quality.

Mobile Chemical Company

Frankfort, Illinois


GEC prepared a comprehensive energy cost reduction program that included the plant HVAC, process chilled water, process compressed air, off-gas incinerator, electric power distribution, lighting and DDC control systems. The program was a prototype for implementation in eleven additional Mobile plants nationwide.

Assisted in the plant expansion through the design and engineering of the HVAC system. Also designed and implemented a clean room environment for the master-video storage and control rooms.

This is a medium-security facility for women. The video surveillance and monitoring systems were upgraded. New video cameras were installed and proximity servers were provided for approximately 7,000 feet of fencing.

GEC was responsible for upgrading the electric power distribution system and installation of a new emergency generator for this juvenile detention facility

Closed Maximum Security Unit

This is a maximum-security prison consisting of 500 cells, an Inmate Services Building, Administrative Building, Tunnel and Guard Towers. GEC was responsible for designing and implementing the plumbing and fire protection systems for the Inmate Services and Administrative Services buildings.

Religious Building Assistance Program

GEC assisted in developing and implementing a pilot program to provide energy assistance to one hundred and three (103) parishes in ComEd's service area in Illinois.

Consolidation Program

GEC was responsible for evaluating the MEP Systems as part of the team engaged by the Archdiocese of Chicago to assess the building systems condition of more than one hundred (100) parishes in the Chicagoland Area.

St. Paul of the Cross

GEC designed and engineered the MEP systems for the junior high school expansion and the renovation of the elementary school.

St. Richards Parish
